BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANISATION :
The Meetei Leimarol Sinnai Sang (MLSS), Manipur, is a non–profit, non-political, non-sectarian Women’s Voluntary Organisation established in the year 1983. It has been working within the Manipuri community since its inception.

To establish a healthy, peaceful and developed Manipuri society.
Mission of the Organisation :
To work within the community with the participation and support of the people, NGOs, Government and other concerns for making a healthy, peaceful and developed society.
Activities of the Meetei Leimarol Sinnai Sang (MLSS):
The Meetei Leimarol Sinnai Sang (MLSS) has been working for the prevention and control of HIV/AIDS since 1999 with the support of the Manipur state AIDS Control Society (MACS), the state government agency, and other concerned agencies. The MLSS has qualified human resources.
Some of the ongoing activities:
i) Targeted HIV/AIDS intervention programme among Female Sex Workers (FSWs) in Imphal East & West Districts under the Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS)
Project: Intervention for Women at Risk (IWR)
- Women’s Health Clinic at Khoyathong Traffic Point
- Community Outreach Centre (COC) at North A.O.C.
Target population = 1000 Female Sex Workers (FSWs)
ii) Targeted HIV/AIDS intervention programme among Female Sex Workers (FSWs) in Senapati District, Manipur under the Manipur State AIDS Control Society
Project : Targeted Intervention Among Women at Risk (TIWAR)
- Women’s Health Care Centre at Kangpokpi.
- Community Outreach Centres (COCs) at
a) Motbung. b) Senapati Town.
Target population = 1000 FSWs
iii) Toll Free AIDS Telephone Helpline Service – 1097 at Khoyathong under the Manipur State AIDS Control Society
iv) Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC) at Khoyathong under the Manipur State AIDS Control Society.
v) 10 Bedded Community Care Centre (Angel’s Care Centre) for PLHAs at Moreh, Chandel District supported by NACO New Delhi.
vi) Link Workers Scheme in Senapati District with SPYM, New Delhi as Lead Agency and supported by Manipur State AIDS Control Society (MACS).
viii) Directly Observed Treatment Short Course (DOTs) for T.B. at Khoyathong. Imphal and Ward No. 9, Moreh, Chandel District.
ix) LEIMAKON WOMEN’S ABODE, a shelter home for women in difficult circumstances including HIV/AIDS affected at Leimakon Women’s Abode Complex, Koirengei managed by the organisation’s own resources.
x) POIREI NAWAKON, a shelter home for abandoned and neglected children, both double and single orphan including HIV/AIDS affected at the Leimakon Women’s Abode Complex, Koirengei, Imphal East District, Manipur.
xi) Vocational programmes like Artistic Textiles, Handloom Weaving, Soft Toys Making, Vegetable Farming, Mushroom Cultivation, etc. at the Leimakon Women’s Abode Complex of the Meetei Leimarol Sinnai Sang (MLSS). The vocational programmes and activities are the backbone of the organisation’s economy and are managed by its own resources. Both HIV/AIDS infected and affected persons are accommodated in the training.
xii) Referral and Networking services with NGOs, GOs in the field of HIV/AIDS prevention, control and intervention.
xiii) Social Health promotion programme – Nupigi Numit, Nupigi Phidam Phirepnaba Numit, etc.
